Watching 'Message in the Waves' & Sustainability

Dear Room 4,

We have been watching this fabulous video online for our Rich Task, which gave us a better and clear view of how we humans treating our natural environment. It is scary to see how much rubbish we have created and what damage caused.

We have turned this into some mini writing sessions in class. I am looking forward to seeing all your lovely work.

The followings are photos taken from the Sustainable Coastline presentation that we had last Friday. Many of us were shocked by some astonishing photos shown on the day. What are your thoughts on this? Were you one of the people who forgot to put the rubbish in the bin? What can you do to help? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions.

I think the purpose of the chat was to depress us so we feel sorry for those people. As we feel sorry for them we are more caring and want to stop the pollution. It was a good tactic and I think it worked on some people in that audience. Considering "Message in the Waves" I think that it made people think about the remote places of the world that are inhabited. I think thatit makes people think about the power of their actions and are considering change

This video and presentation really helped everyone to open there eyes to what our actions result in when we do not think about what we do with rubbish. I now think that everyone is more aware of what they can do to help the earth and the animals in it, by doing simple things each day.

  3. I learnt that rubbish from the city can be blown all the way to other islands...like Great Barrier Island.

  4. Oooh. That poor turtle. How does it do what a normal turtle would do. I feel so sorry for him/she. I now know not to be a litter bug because it is bad for the enviromant and for lots of living creatures. We did learn lots of things though and im going to think twice about the things i do with my rubbish. Good bye. From Zac and Kerwyn

  5. We learnt not to use the earth like a rubbish. We also learnt not to take the sea for granted because lot's of animals die because of all our rubbish.

  6. I lernt that if people through rubbish in the water and fish eat it
the rubbish will work together with the fish skin and when we catch it
and eat it we could get cancer.

  7. It sickens me to know that New Zealand is becoming like this. We must stop this otherwise our future is going to be demolished and will become a massive junk yard

I don't understand what is happening to these sea creatures. They did nothing wrong yet a lot of them are suffering and dying. And that's our fault. Just because of our laziness. Every little bit of rubbish counts. Like how that tortoise just dided by a part of a bottle top. And that isn't fair. And we all know that. But this can stop. If we all start being more cautios and thoughtful, the life around us will be more better.
